Utah Department of Commerce
The place to get started. This is where to get the forms for registering in the State of Utah. Be sure to check out the Division of Consumer Protection, the division that issues Charitable Solicitation Permits.
Internal Revenue Service
For copies of Forms 1023 and 990--needed to register for nonprofit status with the government. This link takes you directly to the part of the site especially for charitable organizations.
National Association of State Charity Officials
The site for state charity oversight officials. There are some great resources to help nonprofit organizations ensure that they are complying with state and federal regulations.
Hurwit Associates
This law firm has a national specialty in nonprofit governance. The site has links to all states' charity oversight divisions and the rules for working in those states. There are also some great templates for by-laws, articles of incorporation, etc.
