Utah Department of Commerce
The place to get started. This is where to get the forms for registering in the State of Utah. Be sure to check out the Division of Consumer Protection, the division that issues Charitable Solicitation Permits.
Internal Revenue Service
For copies of Forms 1023 and 990--needed to register for nonprofit status with the government. This link takes you directly to the part of the site especially for charitable organizations.
National Association of State Charity Officials
The site for state charity oversight officials. There are some great resources to help nonprofit organizations ensure that they are complying with state and federal regulations.
Hurwit Associates
This law firm has a national specialty in nonprofit governance. The site has links to all states' charity oversight divisions and the rules for working in those states. There are also some great templates for by-laws, articles of incorporation, etc.

A network of links to Federal Government information and services for nonprofits.

Information for and about nonprofits. Has the BEST list of nonprofit FAQs anywhere. Lots of good, practical information.
Give.org--BBB Wise Giving Alliance
A resource from the Better Business Bureau that reviews consumer complaints about various charities. Good information on ethical standards as well.

The place to go to learn about fundraising in Utah. This professional organization has some great resources and the UTAH EVENTS CALENDAR for nonprofit fundraising events.

Audit Committee Requirements
This resource from NCNA has some great information on how to create an effective Audit Committee for your organization. There is also a template Conflicts of Interest policy that can be adapted to your organization as well.
Electronic Filing of 990 Reports
This is the final report of EDIN (Electronic Data Initiative for Nonprofits) that discusses how nonprofit organizations can easily file their annual 990 reports electronically to the IRS.
